- Story Text: In Argentina the 1978 World Cup football finals are being played out between 16 nations at six different venues around the country. Football fever has reached epidemic level with the local people and those who can't get to see the games in real life stay glued to the television screen.
SYNOPSIS: No matter where, no matter when. An evening stroll through the main streets of Buenos Aires means little these days unless you can stop outside one of the city's newspaper buildings to watch a World Cup match. Men, women and children alike are smitten with the disease -- after years of pre-tournament preparations and mass media propaganda.
Many establishments are showing the World Cup free of charge -- but others are cashing in on the football boom -- this strip club being a prime example. Called the B???lesque, it is one of many on Corrientes -- the main street of the capital's theatre-land. It seems inconceivable that sex should be relegated to second place behind football -- but that's precisely what's happening here. Club patrons watch the World Cup on large screens When the match is over the strippers begin their acts.
It costs about eight U.S. dollars to get in and for that you can watch a couple of games and a strip show.
This match between Peru and the Netherlands stirred up plenty of local interest, but the club patrons were reluctant to the filmed and there were sighs of relief all round when the Visnews crew departed.
