- Story Text: Pro-Russian separatist leader Oleg Tsarev welcomed the idea of extending the ceasefire at a news conference in the embattled city of Donetsk on Friday (June 27).
Itar-Tass news agency reported that Kiev had decided to extend the ceasefire by 72 hours, but Ukraine's President Petro Poroshenko said on Friday he will take a decision on extending a ceasefire in the east of the country when he returns to Kiev following an EU summit in Brussels.
However, Tsarev insisted the ceasefire conditions should not be a blackmail.
"There have been statements made by Poroshenko that rather sounded as an ultimatum. Novorossiya citizens can not definitely accept it. No one is going to surrender, no one is going to comply with orders of acting Nazi authorities," Oleg Tsarev said, mentioning the term "Novorossiya" which separatists use to describe two self-proclaimed "people's republics" in Donetsk and Luhansk.
"We surely believe that the ceasefire must be extended. It must be carried out not by words, but by deeds. Humanitarian corridors must be created. Sooner or later this may become preconditions for negotiations. Bacause at the moment there can be no profound negotiations in such circumstances," Tsarev added.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also gave a cuatious welcome to the extension of the ceasefire at a news conference in Moscow. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
