- Story Text: Screams of terror echoed along the busy streets of Marikina on Thursday (October 30), as ghouls and zombies, all regular people in costumes of course, walked with the living at the city's annual Halloween parade.
More than a hundred participants joined the costume parade, donning gory or haunting outfits meant to scare children and adults alike.
Some made floats and re-enacted famous horror scenes, while others preferred to frighten the crowd with a zombie infestation.
Monching Castillano and his group chose a more local theme, dressing up as Kapres, a Filipino mythological creature similar to a giant, to scare the people.
"Our concept last year was about zombies, but this year we decided to go local so that people would easily recognize our costume," he said.
The annual Halloween parade was organized by the local government of Marikina in hopes of providing people a venue to celebrate Halloween in the predominantly Catholic country.
"We want to give our people a chance to show their creativity, and this is the venue to do so," said parade organiser Ryan Salvador.
Aside from the chance to scare their neighbours, participants were also awarded cash prizes for the best costume and theme.
