Libya's warring factions will resume U.N.-sponsored talks on Tuesday (February 10) in southern Libya, to try and resolve a struggle between two governments and parliaments, officials from both sides said on Saturday (February 7).
Two rival governments allied to armed groups are fighting for legitimacy in a conflict that Western powers fear might lead to full-scale civil war in the oil-producing nation.
The head of Central Security Omar Kadrawi said troops have been deployed in the capital to beef up security following a deadly attack on a luxury hotel last month.
"This force is tasked with ensuring the security of the capital and the honour of people and combating any attempt of terrorism. No one denies the challenge the capital is undergoing especially after the terror act that targeted the Corinthia Hotel," he said.
On Jan. 27, gunmen stormed the luxury Corinthia Hotel in Tripoli and killed around nine people, including five foreigners.
The victims included a French national working for another Libyan airline, Buraq, according to a Libyan official.
Libyan websites said a crew of three were killed.
Libya has been in chaos since a NATO-backed revolt ousted Muammar Gaddafi nearly four years ago.
