- Story Text: The contestants in this year's Miss world competition paraded in national dress at a charity luncheon in London on Friday (11 November). The appearance was part of a busy scheduled for the girls, one of whom will be proclaimed Miss World next Thursday (17 November).
SYNOPSIS: The line up attracted a lot of attention from both the media and from members of the London Variety Club -- a charitable organisation which gives funds to underprivileged children. Miss Hong kong's attractive costume was matched by that of Miss Indonesia.
Miss Japan added another oriental flavour.
Lebanon was one of the ??? Arab countries represented.
Miss New Zealand, a keen rugby follower. The day before, she had played in a publicity rugby match with a team from the first battalion of the Scotts Guards.
Miss Singapore.
One of the personalities press was British motorcycling champ Barry Sheen, seen here with Miss U.K., and Miss U.S.A.
Among the most spectacular costumes were those of Miss Thailand and Miss Peru.
Miss South Africa, whose predecessor was faced with a boycott from black African states.
The appearance by the girls was followed by a luncheon which raised several thousand pounds for the children's charity. It also gave the contestants a chance to bring a little of their individual cultures to London.
