- Story Text: Former Birmingham City Football Club owner Carson Yeung arrived at a district court in Hong Kong on Friday (February 28) to hear the verdict in his HK$721 million ($92.98 million) money laundering trial that has cast a spotlight on how the barber-turned-businessman made his fortune.
Yeung, a former hair stylist to Hong Kong's rich and famous and head of Hong Kong-listed Birmingham International Holdings Ltd 2309.HK, in his testimony last year told the court he amassed his wealth through hairdressing, share trading, real estate purchases in Southeast Asia, Hong Kong and London, gambling and other investments.
Yeung has denied five charges of money-laundering involving HK$721 million ($92.98 million). The offences allegedly took place from January 2001 to December 2007 and involved five bank accounts.
Yeung stepped down as chairman and executive director of the club's holding company, Birmingham International Holdings Limited in early February.
Hong Kong's Wanchai court is due to announce a 112-page-long verdict later on Friday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
