- Story Text: Apple roars into mobile gaming field market with the unveiling of the new iPhone.
With all the hype that comes with new releases from Apple it's the hardware and data features that get the most attention. But, the iPhone has just upped the ante in a surprising field - video games. Pretty soon you'll be able to play high resolution arcade and racing games from big-name producers like Sega on your iPhone.
"The iPhone is starting to look like a serious contender in the mobile gaming platforms," explained Molly Wood, Executive Editor at CNET.
"These games look good and they appear to sound very good. I think this is going to be a huge shift for the iPhone as more than a phone and more as a gaming device. It's powerful."
Mobile games are not known for stunning graphics or quality of game play - but Apple may have just changed that.
"It's just going to be so much fun," added Jim Dalrymple of Macworld.com. "When you think of games on a mobile device, you think of poorly done games for no other reason then the API's are there to have a real good gaming experience. When you see a game that you can drive by moving your mobile device, when you move the iPhone you steer a car, that is going to be a lot of fun."
Apple CEO, Steve Jobs' introduction of the Application store will encourage developers to create games designed specifically for the iPhone. And it will be as easy as downloading a song from iTunes. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
