If you go to something like Pax, you end up with games that are more about games for the fans. Here it is more about seeing what the portfolios are for the various companies so it is still interesting to see that perspective of it. But it feels more business than it does gaming convention for gamers." NINTENDO LOGO VARIOUS OF YOUNG MEN PLAYING SUPER SMASH BROS. - Story Text: The 2014 Electronic Entertainment Expo, shortened to E3, opened to the public on Tuesday (June 10) as updated games and software excited enthusiastic fans at the annual video gaming expo.
While the PS4 and XBox booths were the headliners of the show, Oculus, recently obtained by Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook, had a line of eager gamers waiting hours to try out the virtual reality headset.
Michael Hall, waiting over 40 minutes for the Oculus demonstration, was keen to check out the latest in 3D graphics.
"It's a 3D, you put on a 3D headset and you're immersed in a 3D world, it looks really, really awesome. Compared to old school where it was really blocky, this one I am expecting it to be really immersed in that world and very good graphics, awesome graphics," Hall said.
Perennial favorites XBox and PS4 were also positively reviewed by attendees.
"I'm looking around, going around the show, looking for whatever level that experience has, whether it's Ubisoft I know have got 'The Crew', I want to go try that out. I want to go see what Sony has to offer and of course right now I would say my favorite are the Microsoft games that they are offering, I think that they are doing a great job," car race game enthusiast, David Giguere, told Reuters.
For others, role playing games like Fable Legends were fun to test out.
"It's awesome, it's a fun explorational puzzle game that allows you to play during World War I, oops and I just died," female gamer Tunesha Shanell said.
E3 is a trade show for games and video or computer consoles, and while it's popular for many gamers to attend, some of them feel it provides a much more business-like experience.
"It's fun, the atmosphere I feel like it is a little more corporate at E3. If you go to something like Pax, you end up with games that are more about games for the fans. Here it is more about seeing what the portfolios are for the various companies so it is still interesting to see that perspective of it. But it feels more business than it does gaming convention for gamers," David Orosz said.
Nintendo Co Ltd offered the first glimpse at interactive figurines of Mario and other characters at E3, aiming to fire up sales of its two-year-old Wii U console, which have fallen far short of targets.
"Just seeing what's coming out, I am really looking forward to Final Fantasy and obviously Super Mario Bros, or Super Smash Bros., sorry," first time E3 attendee Krista Wyly said.
Around 10 figurines will be introduced with the release of "Super Smash Bros. 4" for the Wii U in time for the end-of-year holiday season, Nintendo said. The models will also be made compatible with other existing games, such as the recently launched "Mario Kart 8," in the future, the company added without providing details.
