- Story Text: Security was visibly high around Ellis Park stadium in Johannesburg on Friday (June 18) several hours ahead of Group B's encounter between Slovenia and the United States.
The stadium was at the centre of a dispute between contracted security guards and their employers hours before Brazil beat North Korea 2-1 on Tuesday (June 15).
Guards walked out in protest at low wages but police covered the security void swiftly allowing the match to pass without major incidents.
Around 1,500 policemen and women attended a briefing at the stadium early on Friday before moving to nearby Johannesburg stadium to continue their preparations for the match.
Security has been relatively high near the United States team as there are fears militants may use the exposure at the World Cup to launch an attack.
England, the Netherlands and Denmark are other teams on alert but local authorities have sought to reassure worried teams and fans of the strict measures in force.
Slovenia surprisingly lead the group after they narrowly beat Algeria in their first match, whilst the United States held England to a 1-1 draw.
Both teams will be looking for a win to improve their chances of making the next round. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
