- Story Text: As part of his South African tour, former world heavyweight champion Mike Tyson pays a Soweto school a surprise visit.
Former world heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson made a stop in a Soweto township on Thursday (January 31) as part of his South African visit.
Tyson, who has been in the country since Tuesday (January 29), decided to go along to Moletsane Secondary School in Soweto and meet the pupils.
The former boxer was all smiles as he passed a message to the pupils telling them how important school was.
After leaving the school he also made short stops at the Mandela Family Museum and the Hector Peterson Memorial, concluding his tour of the world-famous South African township.
Tyson had attended a gala banquet in his honour on Wednesday (January 30) at the Emperor's Palace in Johannesburg, where he was snubbed by Jacob Zuma, the controversial leader of South Africa's ruling African National Congress, who did not attend the function.
Tyson, who is affectionately known as "Iron" Mike, is in the country to attend the Fire and Brimstone boxing tournament taking place this weekend at the Emperor's Palace. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
