- Story Text: Striker Fernando Llorentes said on Thursday (July 1) that Spain will stick to their attack-minded style when they play Paraguay in the World Cup quarter-finals.
Llorente, who has had praise heaped on him since his match-turning performance in Spain's 1-0 win over Portugal on Tuesday (June 29), predicted Paraguay would use the same defensive tactics as Spain's other opponents.
"We are not going to change anything that we are doing, I think we need to continue with our style of play and I'm sure that we will find a Paraguay team that will keep their defences tight as many teams we have faced have done. But I think we are used to this and we will continue doing it our way and I think we are capable of being precise and winning the game," he told reporters at Spain's training camp in Potchefstroom, South Africa on Thursday (July 1).
Llorente said that although David Villa has scored all but one of Spain's five goals so far, there were many other potential goalscorers in the Spanish side.
"I think that Villa is doing important (work), he is getting practically all the goals and it's indispensable but I believe there are many other able players who can score goals and I hope that they will be added to the list of goal scorers," said Llorente.
Spain coach Vicente del Bosque's decision to substitute Fernando Torres after 58 minutes with striker Llorente proved to be a masterstroke on Tuesday (June 29) in the match against Portugal.
His presence rattled the Portuguese defence and within five minutes of Llorente coming onto the pitch, Villa scored his fourth goal of the tournament to put Spain into the quarter-finals.
"The coach and all the technical team are all working well with the players and we are in good form. I believe that we are going arrive in a good form if we reach the finals, even though that is far away, but I think we can get there in good conditions and in good form," said striker Pedro Rodriguez.
The European champions now face Paraguay in Johannesburg on July 3 and have a strong chance of reaching only their second World Cup semi-final and the first for 60 years. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
