- Story Text: Serbia is hoping to make a historic move into the last 16 if they win a crucial Group D match against Australia on Wednesday (June 23).
Serbia, who are in their first appearance as an independent nation at this World Cup will be playing against determined Australia at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit located in northeastern South Africa.
A draw could also be enough for the Serbians, depending on the outcome of the Germany v Ghana match in Johannesburg's Soccer City.
Serbian coach Radomir Antic said that his players were impressive during training and the last two sessions have been the "best ever".
"We know that we have an opportunity of historical value tomorrow and we will try to do our best. I wouldn't like to put any additional pressure on my boys, saying that they have to but when I say that I believe in my team, in my boys… I say it quite truthfully, its not just a phrase," said Antic.
Team captain Dejan Stankovic, who had cramps during the game against Germany where Serbia took a shocking 1-0 win, has recovered from a minor calf injury and Antic says he is ready for the Group D match against Australia.
Australia too have an outside chance of advancing into the second stage and Antic said he expected a tough battle against a team of impeccable morale. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
