- Story Text: Podolski and Oezil likely to be fit but Cacau is doubtful for Germany's World Cup quarter-final against Argentina.
Germany's Lukas Podolski and Mesut Oezil look fit to play in their World Cup quarter-final match against Argentina at Greenpoint Stadium in Cape Town on Saturday (July 3).
Germany's coach, Joachim Loew said earlier on Friday (July 2) that Podolski, who has a muscular injury, would undergo a thorough fitness test in Friday's pre-match training. He has to pass the test to be declared healthy to play.
Forward Cacau is a doubtful starter. He missed the previous two training sessions, even though he was working out on Friday.
A war of words has erupted ahead of the match with Germany's players accusing the Argentines of lacking respect and Diego Maradona talking of revenge for an unsavoury defeat on penalties at the same stage of the 2006 World Cup.
Miroslav Klose, Germany's goal-hungry striker, will play his 100th game for his country on Saturday. He has scored 50 goals in the 99 matches he has played for Germany.
Saturday's clash should be a hotly contested affair - Argentina and Germany have arguably played the tournament's most exciting football thus far. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
