- Story Text: South Africa's soccer coach Carlos Alberto Parreira said on Wednesday (April 28) that he was confident his team would be ready for the World Cup.
The players are currently in Germany for a training camp and are playing a friendly against Jamaica on Wednesday (April 28).
The Brazilian coach said he and the team had defined their way of playing and hoped that the pressure of being the host nation would feed into the players' confidence.
"I hope this pressure as it works in the Confederation Cup will make the team go higher. Some teams will favour the pressure. Our team in the Confederation Cup did very well. They played well and responded in a very positive way to the pressure if being the home team and I hope this will happen again in the World Cup. Where the vuvuzela (a loud trumpet) is helping us. We need 70,000 vuvuzelas in the game, pushing our boys," said a cheerful Parreira.
South Africa has been at a training camp in Germany in preparation for the tournament, which it opens on June 11 against Mexico. France and Uruguay are also in Group A.
A game against North Korea ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw but said defender Matthew Booth, the mood was still positive.
"I think the guys want to set the record straight and get a good result, especially after our disappointing result against North Korea, I think we should have wrapped that up easily but failed to do so but the guys are in a positive mood in the camp. The guys are nice and relaxed and looking forward to the game," he said.
Siboniso Gaxa who has created a hard-earned working partnership with Tsepho Masilela was also positive about South Africa's chances.
"We, as we all know. Big games sometimes are lost and won on set pieces. So, that's why we are practising a whole lot of them," he said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
