- Story Text: South Africa attempted to break the record for the world's biggest chocolate bunny, ahead of Easter, on Saturday (March 27).
The three tonne, 3.82 metre high chocolate bunny was created by well-known sculptor Harry Johnson.
At least 250 orphans from townships in Johannesburg tucked in to the chocolate as it was carved, chipped and hammered into.
"Well, you know we wanted to end of the whole project, our world record attempt for the largest bunny for Duracell. We are waiting for Guiness to confirm our world record attempt, so we have done all the documentation. We said well now let's give back to the community let's see what we can do, what we can do with all this chocolate. We got some orphanages, orphans from our surrounding community to come share this unbelievable occasion. It's time for Easter, let's see what we can do with them," said Jason Frichol, Brand Strategist for Fore Good Group.
The event was commissioned by Duracell battery.
Many of the orphans lost parents to HIV/AIDS. South Africa has the highest number of AIDS orphans in the world with over one million.
"Ja, it's so good and it tastes very well and it's so nice," said one unnamed child.
The remaining chocolate will be donated to other orphanages around Johannesburg. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
