- Story Text: Former police commissioner Jackie Selebi arrives in court for sentencing after being found guilty of corruption for accepting bribes from a convicted drug smuggler.
The former head of South Africa's police force, Jackie Selebi, arrived in court on Monday (August 2) for sentencing after he was found guilty on graft charges on Friday June.2.
Selebi is one of the most senior officials yet to be legally implicated for corruption in the country. He was charged with receiving payments from Glenn Agliotti, a convicted drug
smuggler accused of playing a role in the 2005 murder of a mining tycoon.
Selebi, an ally of former South African President Thabo Mbeki, had been charged with corruption and defeating theof justice but was found not guilty of the latter charge.
