- Story Text: Five-time World Cup champions Brazil head home in disappointment after losing to the Netherlands.
Brazil's World Cup soccer squad headed home on Saturday (July 3) after losing 2-1 against Netherlands in the quarter-finals on Friday (July 2).
Dozens of Brazilian soccer fans gathered outside the Protea hotel in Port Elizabeth, South Africa to cheer the players as they were leaving for the airport.
One of the pre-tournament favourites and five-time former champions, Brazil had looked rampant in the first half against the Dutch after Robinho scored in only the tenth minute.
But the Dutch regrouped in the second half and equalised through a Wesley Sneijder free kick which was deflected in by Brazilian defender Felipe Melo in the 53rd minute.
Once the Dutch had levelled, Brazil seemed to fall apart and lost all their cool and organisation, with Sneijder heading in the winner in the 68th minute.
Melo was then sent off soon afterwards for stamping on winger Arjen Robben as Brazil crumbled. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
