- Story Text: South African Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe arrived in Turkey on Tuesday (May 25) for a two-day official visit to increase bilateral economic and business ties .
Motlante was accompanied by six cabinet ministers and a business delegation.
South Africa's deputy president and Turkish Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan met in Ankara to discuss ways of strengthening economic relations on Tuesday.
On Wednesday (May 26) Motlanthe told businessmen in Istanbul that Turkey and South Africa are seeking ways of extending their cooperation.
"The Turkey-South Africa Business Forum presents an opportunity for businessmen to engage in a wide range of issues including identification of business opportunities in both our countries," he said.
Motlanthe said one way in which ties between the two countries could be developed was in the field of tourism.
"There are benefits of extending tourism activities and strengthening co-operation in this field, taking into account the role that tourism plays in employment creating and cementing ties between the countries. In this context we are looking at a possibility of increasing the frequency of flights and participation in tourism fairs and exhibitions organized by our two countries," he said during a luncheon held on the sidelines of Turkey-South Africa business forum.
