- Story Text: Slovakia completed final preparations at the Free State Stadium, in Mangaung, South Africa on Saturday (June 19) for their second Group F World Cup match against Paraguay.
Slovakia, playing in their first World Cup finals, drew their opening match 1-1 against New Zealand on June 15, with only an injury-time goal from Winston Reid preventing the Slovaks from opening with a win.
With Paraguay also drawing 1-1 against defending world champions Italy in their opening game, a win for either side will go a long way to ensuring qualification for the second round.
"Tomorrow's match will turn the group situation. Paraguay played a great game against Italy and they are very combative and if all our players can deliver a great performance we can count on a great result," said Slovakia's coach, Vladimir Weiss.
Slovakia goalkeeper Jan Mucha said that Paraguay is a very developed and disciplined side.
"It surely won't be an easy match, but our side is prepared for it physically and also mentally. And this match will surely tell us more about how our situation will look in the future," said Mucha.
Weiss said that he will be making changes to his team for the match against Paraguay, but he would not divulge what those changes would be.
The news briefing then ended abruptly when Weiss stood up and left, clearly irritated after a Spanish-speaking journalist asked him if he respected the Paraguay team.
"Of course I respect Paraguay otherwise I would not sit here. And I want to thank the Slovak journalists who are much better than the foreign ones," he said, standing up and leaving hurriedly to terminate the news conference. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
