- Story Text: Soccer fans from Uruguay celebrated in Port Elizabeth, South Africa on Saturday (June 26) their team's victory over South Korea in the World Cup second round.
Uruguayan striker Luis Suarez scored twice as the South American team advanced to the quarter-finals of the World Cup with a 2-1 win.
Uruguay took the lead through Suarez in the eighth minute when he ran in to score at the far post after a left wing cross from Diego Forlan was missed by Korean keeper Jung Sung-ryong.
But South Korea, one of two Asian teams in the last 16, fought back and deservedly equalised in the 68th minute when Lee Chung-yong headed home after Uruguayan keeper Fernando Muslera got stranded off his line from a free kick.
Suarez grabbed the winner with a brilliant curling right foot shot in the 80th minute.
Uruguay fans were carrying flags, singing and chanting in the rain as they left the Nelson Mandela Bay stadium in Port Elizabeth.
"We win, it's great and the great match, and now we are with the top eight in the World Cup," soccer fan from Uruguay Emilio said.
"It was a fantastic game, both teams gave hundred percent, Uruguay went to sleep a little bit in the second half but that second goal was fantastic," Robin, a Uruguay soccer fan, said.
South Korean fans were sad to leave the tournament but they were satisfied with their team's performance.
"We played really good but we should have attacked more in the first half but we deserved to win, it was a good game," South Korean soccer fan Rayan said.
In the quarter-finals, Uruguay will play the winners of the match later on Saturday between the United States and Ghana. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
