- Story Text: British multi-Grammy award-winning singer Seal mesmerized thousands of his South African fans at an AIDS concert themed a 'POSI+IVE' campaign to raise funds for Tapologo, a local hospice.
Tapologo is an initiative close to Rustenburg in the North West Province and is a pioneering model for combating HIV/AIDS in Africa. Founded by Bishop Kevin Dowling twelve years ago, the Tapologo hospice not only cares for those suffering from AIDS, but is also actively involved in an outreach programme of preventative education and support to families affected by loved-ones with HIV/AIDS.
Proceeds raised at the 'Positive' concert, which was held at the Superbowl at Sun City, went towards the Tapologo Aids Hospice.
Seal said he was proud to add his voice to that of others uniting from across the globe to partake in POSI+IVE and send a message to the world that artists must come forward to help fight the disease.
" The most important thing is for people to come in and get tested, you know. AIDS is still a problem that people are ashamed of, or in denial more importantly and therein lies the biggest factor because that only helps the spread of it and I guess what we are trying to do, what we are trying to achieve, is to try and stop that spread. That is the only way we have any hope of keeping this problem at bay and so the message is awareness, you know," he said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
