- Story Text: Ghana's squad trained on Monday (June 28) for their quarter-final match against Uruguay on Friday (July 2) at Johannesburg's Soccer City.
The Black Stars survived an injury scare, striker Asamoah Gyan, whose extra time goal sent Ghana through to the quarter-finals, was using an ice-pack and hobbling on an injured foot but he shrugged it aside.
"Oh man," he said. "I just felt a knock so it's a bit swollen, but I don't think it's so serious. By Friday I will be ready," the striker said at the end of the session at Mogwase stadium.
Missing from training was goal-scorer against the USA Kevin-Prince Boateng and John Mensah.
The team are contemplating a tough game against Uruguay who beat Mexico to go top in the group stage of the tournament.
"They are a good side," said Sulley Muntari at Mogwase. "We are not going to under-rate them, we are just going to play our football to try our best to win."
The Black Stars have been adopted by fans throughout Africa as their only representatives in the quarter-finals of the World Cup competition.
"Sure we are so happy for this qualification," said Gyan. "because it is so important for we Ghanaians and the whole of Africa you know. We qualified for the round of 16, that was four years ago, this time we were able to qualify for the quarter-finals so I think it is a big achievement for the Black Stars."
"It's like you are playing behind your house," said Muntari of playing in South Africa."You have all the people, all the continent behind you so it is a good feeling."
Goalkeeper Richard Kingson said the support from fans was welcome.
"Many countries are here to support Africa, so I hope on Friday we'll get advantage from the supporters," he said.
