- Story Text: Leaving the main conference hall at Durban's International Convention Centre, Munich 2018 Bid chair Katarina Witt told Reuters she experienced a mixture of emotions during the official presentation for Munich.
She said: " It is a mixture, when you sit there you are totally excited, you are nervous at the same time you are quite relieved as well because you know that you want to bring everything across.
The former Olympic figure skater said she believes Minich can offer something special. " The main focus for us was today definitely to place emphasis on the atmosphere we create in Germany with the millions of fans who are coming and watching and supporting the athletes from all over the world, I think that this is something unique and this is what the athletes train for you go into the Olympics you want the best audience so you can give your best performance."
German Olympic Committee President Tomas Bach compared the experience to that of one of the competitors. " This is like an athlete after a great competition, " he explained. " You feel relieved first of all we were longing for this day now for four years to go out onto the stage and to show the IOC members what we can offer and now our fate is in their hands."
Jacques Rogge will announce the host city for the 2018 Winter Olympic Game at a ceremony being broadcast live starting at 1500 GMT.
