- Story Text: Gunmen on a motorcycle opened fire on a vehicle belonging to the Japanese consulate in the southern city of Karachi, wounding two Pakistani employees on Thursday (October 28), police said.
A senior police official, Javed Akbar Riaz said the attack may have been an attempt of robbery. He said there were three Pakistanis in the vehicle when they stopped by a bank to get cash before heading to a restaurant to buy bread, where they were ambushed.
"This car belongs to Japan consulate. There is a bank of Tokyo near Shaheen Complex. They withdrew a small amount of cash from there, and they went to Cantt Station off the route. There is a crown hotel near Cantt station, they stopped by to get bread for themselves. Until now what is confirmed is that there was a man who was wearing helmet, and demanded cash from them, but as soon as he saw the security guard he opened fire on them. Two people were injured who are Pakistani. One of them is a security guard, and another person is from the Japan consulate administration," senior superintendent Javed Akbar Riaz told reporters.
