- Summary: TOKYO, JAPAN (SEPTEMBER 19, 2007) (REUTERS) (*** FLASH PHOTOGRAPHY ***) ZETA-JONES ARRIVES FOR PRESS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (English) CATHERINE ZETA-JONES, ACTRESS, SAYING: "A lot of it has to do with confidence, I decided long ago that I couldn't cook, so I didn't and wouldn't cook. But that has all changed. To the point that my husband actually says "Wow, its taken seven years of marriage, for me to find out that you can actually cook something. Even my children are like "Wow, mama, we've never seen you do this before." So I don't prophesize to be the kind of chef that Kate is, but if you were coming to my house for dinner, I don't think you'd be too disappointed." WIDE OF NEWS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (English) CATHERINE ZETA-JONES, ACTRESS, SAYING: "There was a funny story that happened where I was doing a scene with Patricia Clarkeson where I was getting angry, and the restaurant was packed with extras, the other actors. And we were doing a scene and these tourists came off the street and into the set and asked for a reservation while whilst the cameras where rolling. I had to stop and say "No, this is not a real restaurant", so we were making a movie. And the director was like "Cut!! Who are those people in the shot?" and I said "Sorry, they just came in to the restaurant" and I had to say "Hi, we're making a movie and I am Catherine Zeta-Jones and I am not a real chef". WIDE OF NEWS CONFERENCE (SOUNDBITE) (English) CATHERINE ZETA-JONES, ACTRESS, SAYING: "I have very fond memories of Pavarotti. I was honoured, he asked me to host, along with my husband, a charity event in his home town of Modena in Italy. I was very close to his wife and unfortunately he leaves behind two very young children. So I think he legacy will last with us for a long time. But it was a great pleasure for me to know the man, the great man, personally." - Story Text: Hollywood actress Catherine Zeta-Jones turned up at the Tokyo red carpet event on Tuesday (September 18) for her latest film "No Reservations".
Hundreds of screaming fans got a glimpse and even signed autographs from the Welsh actress, best known for her role in The Mask of Zorro and as the wife of U.S. actor Michael Douglas.
In her latest film, Zeta-Jones plays the part of a career-driven chef at a restaurant forced to face the more simple and straight-foward family life.
In real life, however Zeta-Jones admits to having learnt to cook only very recently.
"A lot of it has to do with confidence, I decided long ago that I couldn't cook, so I didn't and wouldn't cook. But that has all changed. To the point that my husband actually says "Wow, its taken seven years of marriage, for me to find out that you can actually cook something. Even my children are like "Wow, mama, we've never seen you do this before."
So I don't prophesize to be the kind of chef that Kate is, but if you were coming to my house for dinner, I don't think you'd be too disappointed,"
she told a press conference for Japanese media on Wednesday (September 19).
Real life and fiction also came face to face on the set of the actual movie, according to Zeta-Jones.
"There was a funny story that happened where I was doing a scene with Patricia Clarkeson where I was getting angry, and the restaurant was packed with extras, the other actors. And we were doing a scene and these tourists came off the street and into the set and asked for a reservation while whilst the cameras where rolling. I had to stop and say "No, this is not a real restaurant", so we were making a movie. And the director was like "Cut!! Who are those people in the shot?" and I said "Sorry, they just came in to the restaurant" and I had to say "Hi, we're making a movie and I am Catherine Zeta-Jones and I am not a real chef"," she said.
Zeta-Jones also shared her memories of the late legendary opera singer Luciano Pavarotti.
"I have very fond memories of Pavarotti. I was honoured, he asked me to host, along with my husband, a charity event in his home town of Modena in Italy. I was very close to his wife and - unfortunately he leaves behind to very young children. So I think he legacy will last with us for a long time.
But it was a great pleasure for me to know the man, the great man, personally," she told Japanese press.
Zeta-Jones' also celebrated her birthday a few days earlier in Tokyo.
