- Story Text: Australian actor Sam Worthington and director Louis Leterrier spoke at a news conference in Tokyo on Wednesday (April 7) to promote their new film, "Clash of the Titans" before its Japanese release later this month.
Worthington told the audience that his previous role in the box-office hit "Avatar" had affected his personal life over the last six months.
"What's changed is that freedom I have in regards to choice. It also takes a lot of freedom away in regards to a lot of people know my ugly head. But that's okay," Worthington said.
"That kind of pressure's what I want to kind of raise my bar a bit and raise my game and keep on giving the audience their sixteen dollars worth, because that's what I believe is important. What I do and where I fit in life isn't important, it's what the audience gets out of my job that's important.," he added.
"Clash of the Titans" grossed 44.2 million U.S. dollars from No. 1 openings in all 15 of its foreign markets. The early worldwide total stands at 108.26 million U.S. dollars.
The movie is currently top of North American box offices, grossing 64.1 million U.S. dollars from theaters in just four days since its release last Thursday, according to Time Warner Inc.
The film is the latest release to cash in on the craze for 3D. But star of the movie, Worthington, said that technical advances would have little effect on his role as an actor.
"It doesn't change what I do, whether it's 3D or 2D. My job when doing a scene remains the same. I believe that what audiences demand -- making films -- is to transport you to another world, and I believe strongly that 3D is another tool that a filmmaker can use to help do that effectively," Worthington told the audience.
Since the success of "Avatar," Hollywood has rushed to capitalize on 3D movies because studios can charge higher ticket prices for the experience.
"Clash of the Titans," which cost over 100 million U.S. dollars to make, is not even a true 3D film since it was converted from 2D after filming was completed.
"Whether it's 3D, 2D or DVD, it shouldn't really matter that if the story has to be strong, the actors and the characters and the action has to be bold and brave, and I think that 3D can just improve on the wonderment of it," Worthington added.
In the 3D action film, Worthington plays the heroic Perseus and Ralph Fiennes also stars as the villainous Hades The film is a Hollywood remake of 1981's feature of the same name. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
