- Story Text: The world of Narnia returns to the big screen with "Prince Caspian" from the third book in the classic C.S. Lewis series.
Lead Actor Ben Barnes and Director Andrew Adamson were joined in the news conference on Monday (May 19) in Tokyo with their fellow cast members, two of four child characters, played by William Moseley (as Peter) and Georgie Henley (as Lucy).
Director Adamson returned to helm the second film, after "The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe" earned $291 million (USD) domestic US gross in 2005.
This time the film takes on a more darker role: The Pevensie children from the first film return to Narnia to find the kingdom overthrown and under control of an evil tyrant, King Miraz (played by Italian actor Sergio Castellitto). The children, with the help of the Narnian creator Aslan (voiced again by Liam Neeson), must return the rightful king, Prince Caspian, to the throne.
"It is always pleasure for me to go back to Narnia, I visited Narnia first time in my imagination when I was eight years old and it is kind of existed in my head ever since then and this film has given me a huge privilege being able to take Narnia from my mind and give it to rest of the world to enjoy," said Adamson at a news conference.
The lead role of Prince Caspian went to British newcomer Ben Barnes, who despite a small role in Last year's "stardust," had never acted in a large-budgeted, let alone an estimated 100 million US dollars, Hollywood film.
Asked about taking on such a challenge, he said: "All the way through the end of the film, Caspian said he is not sure he is ready for all the attention and responsibility, and lots people asking me how are you feeling about all the attention and responsibility playing that part and that sort of. Slowly getting used to it but I certainly did not feel ready for it."
Actor William Moseley who plays the eldest sibling, peter in the film, said he enjoyed performing with skilled actors and actresses and especially praised Georgie Henley who played Moseley's sister Lucy.
"Specially with Georgie, I think she acts from the same place I do. She acts from emotional place, really from a heart and I really can appreaciate that when I see her on screen, it is really, it kind of blow me away and I think she had a kind of step up to do from the first film for just seeing her in that performance, it is really I know I really love her. I think she is the spiritual heart to the film," he said.
Meanwhile, 12-year-old Henley has already begun to focus on the next sequel on her minds.
"It is absolutely my favourite book in Narnia series, so it would be really good to be able to perform it. So I am looking forward working more closely with Ben and of course Skandar and new addition to cast whoever he may be, I am extremely looking forward to everything really," she said.
Walt Disney's "The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian," the second film in a series based on the "Narnia" books by C.S. Lewis, opened at No. 1 with estimated three-day sales of 56.6 million US dollar in North America.
However, the film fell short of expectations at the box office as industry analysts had expected an opening in the 80 million US dollar range, and certainly a figure above the 65.6 million start for the film's 2005 predecessor, "The lion, The witch and the Wardrobe."
