- Story Text: Japan was the last team to arrive at FIFA headquarters in Zurich on Wednesday (December 1) to make their final presentation to try and convince FIFA's executive committee to award them the 2022 World Cup.
The committee will vote for the winners on Thursday (December 2), when they will also choose the hosts for the 2018 tournament.
Japan won praise when they co-hosted the 2002 World Cup with South Korea and this time they are banking on cutting-edge technology, including live 3D telecasts of matches, to tilt the balance in the country's favour.
Japan's bid chairman Sir Howard Stringer said their strength is delivering technology to the world.
"Our point really is that World Cup is no longer just a local event but a global event and what we intend to demonstrate the nature of the global technology opportunity which we think is fantastic," he said to reporters.
Japan are in a race against the U.S., Australia, South Korea and Qatar to host the 2022 event. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
