- Story Text: British actor Jude Law was caught off-guard by Japanese media at a news conference on Wednesday (February 15) by the news that fellow Sherlock Holmes actor, Robert Downey Jr. had become father to a bouncing baby boy.
The 39-year-old actor was in Tokyo to promote his latest film, "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows", the sequel to the 2009 film "Sherlock Holmes,".
Directed by Guy Ritchie, the sequel features Robert Downey, Jr. and Jude Law, who reprise their roles as Sherlock Holmes and Dr. John Watson.
He described the relationship between the characters of Holmes and Watson.
"As with the Holmes/Watson relationship, ours continues to be very loyal, fun and complicated," Law said.
While describing his on-screen/off-screen relationships, the actor got a surprise of his own when a journalist asked how he had reacted to the news of Robert Downey Jr.'s newly-born son, born last Tuesday (February 7).
"I didn't know the baby was born. Is that true? Wow! I didn't know. I knew it was expected. When? Am I late? How long ago? Last week? I feel terrible. I didn't know. He called you and he didn't call me?" he said.
Robert Downey, Jr. and his wife Susan welcomed a new baby boy - Exton Elias Downey last week.
He is the second boy for Downey Jr., who already has an 18-year-old son from a previous marriage.
The action-packed "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" grossed $39.6 million U.S. dollars in its first weekend, significantly less than the $62.3 million U.S. dollars that its predecessor, the 2009 "Sherlock Holmes," took when it opened.
However, after getting out of the gate slow in mid-December of 2011, Warner's "Sherlock Holmes" sequel found momentum at the box office and became the first film of the 2011 holiday season to cross the $100 million U.S. dollars threshold domestically.
