- Story Text: China on Thursday (November 22) said it hopes newly appointed Japanese Ambassador to China, Masato Kitera, will help improve relations between the two countries.
"China will handle the rotation of the Japanese ambassador to China according to relevant procedures and international practice. I want to add that currently China-Japan relations face serious difficulties. We hope the new Japanese ambassador will make efforts to properly handle Sino-Japanese conflicts, and push bilateral relations back to the track of healthy development," said Chinese foreign ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying at a news conference in Beijing.
Kitera, who served previously as assistant chief Cabinet secretary, will be the nation's new ambassador, after Shinichi Nishimiya the last nominee died suddenly and failed to take up his post, Japanese media said.
The 59-year old Kitera will take up his appointment at a time when the relationship between Japan and China has sunk to its lowest level over disputed islands in the East China Sea. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
