- Story Text: Scores of christian pilgrims arrived on Wednesday (April 20) at the West Bank site of Qasr Al-Yahud, next to the Palestinian city of Jericho, where they re-enacted the baptism of Jesus Christ in the Jordan River.
Worshippers from around the world made their way down the riverbank and immersed themselves in the water, where Christian tradition says John the Baptist baptised Jesus.
Some historians identify Qasr Al Yahud as the approximate site of the original baptism, situated alongside the international border between Israel and Jordan.
"I came here with the pilgrims of my country to celebrate this feeling next to the ones who believe in word of the Lord, and to feeling at the same time the holy spirit in our souls. Knowing that God was here for us is just... is the main reason to feel this feeling," John, a pilgrim from Romania, told Reuters Television.
In Orthodox tradition, baptism is conducted by a person being immersed into the water three times. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
