WEBB: "We were at this stage rather weak. We hadn't eaten for two days. They did give us food that night about midnight." REPORTER: "The night of your capture?" WEBB: "Yes. I think it was about midnight." REPORTER: "What did they give you to eat Kate?" WEBB: "Rice and pork...very salty sauce....and they gave us cigarettes, and they gave us Cambodian tobacco. They told us they were Cambodian Liberation Armed Forces. Then we said you're Vietnamese, and they explained that they had come to help the Vietnamese because the Americans had spread the war to Cambodia. The Cambodian people were now being divided....and I referred to them....and they called themselves the Cambodian Liberation Armed Forces (indistinct). They treated us extremely well. For example, my feet were badly swollen and they really treated them every day. They gave me penicillin and vitamin pills....made sure I could wash them with cold water...provided us with tooth-brushes, toothpaste, mosquito nets, hammocks, and soap. - Story Text: After being released by Viet Cong and communist forces on Saturday (1 May) Miss Kate Webb, a UPI journalist, gave a press conference at the Hotel Le Royal in Phnom Penh. Miss Webb and five other journalists had been held in captivity for over three weeks by units calling themselves the Cambodian Liberation Armed Forces. Visnews cameraman Neil Davis was among the first newsmen at the Hotel when Miss Webb gave an account of her treatment after capture.
