Summary:The event which finally destroyed the appeal of the airship, the crash of the German airship Hindenburg. It happened on May 6 1937, suddenly and without apparent cause as the giant airship was approaching its mooring at Lakehurst, New Jersey, after a smooth transatlantic flight. Thirty- three people died in the inferno and public confidence in the airship with its load of highly inflammable gas, waned sharply.
