There were, like, four and we had to run at a really specific pace to make sure we were hitting the marks because they were going off - they were detonating - as we passed the mark and I was in - part of my wardrobe - I was in four inch heels. So, it was hard for me to keep up with him and that's just kind of frightening because if you go too slow, if you don't keep the pace then I would get a gas bomb in my face which is not something you want to experience." FOX AND LABEOUF AT HEAD TABLE (SOUNDBITE) (English) SHIA LABEOUF, ACTOR AND STAR OF TRANSFORMER-REVENGE, SAYING: "All the scenes with Megan are just so hard. It's just so hard to convey this romantic attraction. It's hard to really conjure that up. It's really difficult." I love his movies and Transformers for me in my lexicon - my life is like: Yogi Bear, Michael Jackson, Transformers. In the 80s this was the stuff, man. You were not cool if you weren't into this stuff so just me wanting to be cool. And, again, the people involved." REPORTERS LISTING (SOUNDBITE) (English) SHIA LABEOUF, ACTOR AND STAR OF TRANSFORMER-REVENGE, SAYING: "It's Transformers. You've got to understand this is a movie about toys. I mean, what are we talking about now for a second? Let's just think about that. I know there's a number of ways to read into these things and bury us as a movie and call us the big bad American film. There's a lot of military in this movie. It's not just American. There's a lot of Jordanian military in this movie and they're looked at in a very good light; British military is looked at in a very good light. Mike made an attempt, and again - we get the chance to play with these big, big toys and the trade-off to get this clearance is you've got to be nice to these people in the film. And that's why the military is so highly regarded because without them you can't make this movie. There's no budget that would allow it." - Story Text: Actors Shia Labeouf and Megan Fox spoke to media in Paris on Friday (June 12) about starring in the latest Steven Spielberg film "Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen".
"Transformers," a special-effects movie extravaganza about popular toys who turn into alien robots, dominated the U.S. box office when it was first released in 2007.
In the film, LaBeouf and Fox play youngsters befriended by Autobots, the good aliens who battle the evil Decepticons.
The film, executive produced by Steven Spielberg, features vehicles that whiz and whir into alien robots and spectacular sci-fi stunt chases.
Both Fox and Labeouf said they faced challenges while filming.
"We had to run at a really specific pace to make sure we were hitting the marks because they were going off - they were detonating - as we passed the mark and I was in - part of my wardrobe - I was in four inch heels. So, it was hard for me to keep up with him and that's just kind of frightening because if you go too slow, if you don't keep the pace then I would get a gas bomb in my face which is not something you want to experience," Fox said of her experience filming one dangerous scene.
"All the scenes with Megan are just so hard. It's just so hard to convey this romantic attraction," joked Labeouf.
Promoters say that the movie tried to expand beyond fanboys and sci-fi addicts to include older "kids" who grew up with the Transformers toys and comic books.
"Transformers for me in my lexicon - my life is like: Yogi Bear, Michael Jackson, Transformers. In the 80s this was the stuff, man. You were not cool if you weren't into this stuff so just me wanting to be cool. And, again, the people involved," said LaBeouf, explaining his reasons for accepting the role as Sam Witwicky.
He also said director Michael Bay was one of his favourite film directors.
The cast and crew had close contact with several military units during the production of the film, but LaBeouf said that shouldn't be viewed as a political statement.
"There's a number of ways to read into these things and bury us as a movie and call us the big bad American film. There's a lot of military in this movie. It's not just American. There's a lot of Jordanian military in this movie and they're looked at in a very good light; British military is looked at in a very good light," LaBeouf said.
"We get the chance to play with these big, big toys and the trade-off to get this clearance is you've got to be nice to these people in the film. And that's why the military is so highly regarded because without them you can't make this movie. There's no budget that would allow it," he added.
Last month promoters for the film, which is expected to be a summer blockbuster, placed a life-size replica of one robot outside the Carlton Hotel during the Cannes Film Festival. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
