- Story Text: The Australian editor of Myanmar's English newspaper had a bail request refused by a Yangon court on Thursday (February 24).
Ross Dunkley, editor of The Myanmar Times, was arrested in Yangon airport on his return from overseas trip on February 10 and is being held at Myanmar's notorious Insein prison with hundreds of political inmates.
Dunkley, 55, was initially charged by Yangon's police of assaulting a woman, but later the case was withdrawn. He is still charged with breaching visa regulations by Myanmar immigration. The court adjourned the hearing to March 3.
The co-founder of the Myanmar Times is a key shareholder in Phnom Penh Post publisher, Post Media and was coming back from Japan when he was detained. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
