We basically would like to get off the bottom slot, to get a different perspective so to speak" VARIOUS OF WERDER PLAYERS TALKING TO TRAINER THOMAS SCHARF (SOUNDBITE) (German) WERDER BREMEN TRAINER THOMAS SCHARF SAYING: "We are going to take on our next opponents and will try our best to get through it and to succeed as far as we are able. - Story Text: Werder Bremen trained on Monday (November 1) for their Champions League clash with Dutch side Twente Enschede, appearing wary of their opponent's strength, but needing the win to progress to the knockout stages.
Bremen have taken just two points from their three Group A games so far, but are above Twente on goal difference.
Werder are playing at home on Tuesday, which will give them an advantage, although they have a lengthy injury list.
Speaking at a news conference in Bremen on Monday, defender Per Mertesacker said the pressure was on to leave the bottom spot.
"Because we are now so often playing games so close together it's possible to forget the sort of pressure we are under. We want to finally get into the group and not with our backs against the wall. We want to finally be in the group, on points as well. We basically would like to get off the bottom slot, to get a different perspective so to speak," he said.
Reigning Dutch champions Twente are in a buoyant mood after a successful weekend. Bremen trainer Thomas Scharf said he wouldn't underestimate the Dutch team, but that if his side finds its stride he is optimistic.
"We are going to take on our next opponents and will try our best to get through it and to succeed as far as we are able. And the fact that tomorrow we face a good opponent - who is also sure to have a lot of confidence and who also did very well last weekend means it is not going to be easy but we have to make sure that we find our game and play it and that we do this for the whole game."
Inter Milan lead Group A with seven points and they play Tottenham Hotspur, who have four points, in London on Tuesday. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
