- Story Text: Cricket.... and in Bridgetown, Barbados the West Indies won the second Test against Australia by nine wickets. On Sunday (19 March), the third day, the Australians were all out in their second innings for 178 just before lunch, and the West Indies scored the 141 they needed to win for the loss of only Desmond Haynes. The West Indies are now two up in the five-match series.
SYNOPSIS: Colin Croft to Australian captain, Bobby Simpson, and the ball went for two off Simpson's pads.
While wickets had tumbled steadily at the other end, opener Graeme Wood had batted with stubborn resistance, but when he had reached 56 he played Croft to Richards, and was run out.
Yardley joined Simpson and he confidently drove Garner for four.
Garner eventually got his revenge... Yardley was yorked for 43, and the end of the Australian innings was in sight.
Garner to Thoson.... and four runs.
Garner again to Thomson, and this time he was caught by Richards for 11.
The Australians were all out for 178.
When the West Indies went in again Greenidge was in scintillating form... four runs off a no ball from Thomson.
Haynes, too, went for the runs... this six off Yardley went over the Kensington Stand.
Yardley to Greenidge... and it was six more.
It was Higgs, who got Haynes. When he was 55 he was picket up at backward point by Yardley.
Yardley to Greendge ... three runs ... and it was all over. The West Indies had won by nine wickets with more than two days to spare. Greenidge's contribution had been a sparkling 80 not out. No wonder his Barbados home crowd were delighted.
