- Story Text: Makeshift coffins and symbolic funeral prayers for victims of a chemical weapons attack were held by protesters outside the Iranian and Russian embassies in Turkish capital Ankara on Friday (April 7), with demonstrators accusing the two countries of collaborating with the Syrian government.
The protests come as the United States fired dozens of cruise missiles at a Syrian air base earlier on Friday from which it said a deadly chemical weapons attack was launched this week.
Dozens of victims wounded in the attack were brought to Turkey for treatment on Tuesday (April 4) after the deadly attack. A resident of Idlib, Gassan al-Ahmad, who has two relatives in Reyhanli state-hospital, said Syria's embattled President Bashar Assad must leave.
Turkey has also called for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad's immediate ouster voicing support for a U.S. missile strike on one of his air bases and saying the creation of safe zones to protect civilians was now more important than ever. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
