- Story Text: Movie stars Val Kilmer and Robert Downey Jr. came out to celebrate the Hollywood premiere of their new film "Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" in Los Angeles, California on Tuesday (October 18). The action-comedy is written and directed by Shane Black who wrote the screenplay for Hollywood block buster "Lethal Weapon" in 1987.
The film marks Black's first since 1994, and Kilmer's first comedy since "Real Genius" in 1985. Black said his leading men, the eccentric actors with the bad boy reputations, were nothing but professional. "There is this reputation that both of them have. That's the past. There was nothing on my set that to indicate they they were anything but consummate professionals," Black told Reuters at the premiere. Kilmer plays a private eye in Los Angeles who teams up with a struggling actor, played by Robert Downey, Jr., to help actress Michelle Monaghan solve a murder case. "You know Hollywood is the centre of a lot of dashed dreams because it is kind of a fantasy factory . People come out here having been the most popular person in their little town and get their hoped dashed. But every now and again your dreams can come true. They did for me even being from the San Fernando Valley," Kilmer said.
Thrust into the cut-throat world of LA's pros, cons, losers and wannabes, Downey Jr.'s character gets himself into all kinds of dangerous situations. "It is kind of a love letter with a lot of back-stabbing on the way. But ultimately they are all staying here in the end. That is the funny thing people love talking smack about LA but we are all going home to our places here at night," Newlywed Downey Jr. said, standing next to his wife.
One of the funniest scenes of the film takes place when Kilmer's character 'Gay Perry', a gay man, tries to elude the police by kissing Downey Jr. who portrays 'Harry Lockhart'.
The two actors had their own take of the scene. "It was the Hoagie. It was the deli mustard that kept it from going any further," explained Downey Jr. "You know he is a giver. He was tender very tender. If he were here right now I would show you," Kilmer said. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
