- Story Text: Libyan fighters poured into a desert town held by forces loyal to Muammar Gaddafi on Friday (September 16), as explosions and gunfire echoed around the town's hills and valleys.
Bani Walid, 180 km (110 miles) south of Tripoli, has been under siege for two weeks, with hundreds of die-hard Gaddafi loyalists concentrated at its centre. Libyan fighters said they had captured a valley leading to the centre of Bani Walid from Muammar Gaddafi's forces on Friday.
"God is greater and thank God. From about 3 km outside of the city of Bani Walid, it's very lively and it's under control by the rebels now. God has made this successful,'' said one local commander.
