Stating once again that he expected Muammar Gaddafi to comply with the Security Council, Ki-moon said that the Libyan leader was going against the grain of international opinion.
"By the action taken by the international community, the Security Council resolution 1973 was adopted by determined will of whole international community. Colonel Gaddafi he cannot, and should not and must not fight alone against the whole...he cannot do that. And the justice will prevail," he said.
Address the leaders of Yemen, he told them that the use of military weaponry on their citizens was unacceptable.
"I have been repeatedly urging Yemen, Yemen's leaders and authorities and I have condemned their using live ammunition against the peaceful demonstrators. This must stop. Again this is an unacceptable situation. They have to engage in inclusive national dialogue. They have to listen what are the challenges and aspirations of those citizens," he said.
Ban Ki-moon was scheduled to to have private meeting with the mother of Mohamed Bouazizi who set fire to himself on Dec. 17 last year in protest at his treatment by local authorities. His death later in hospital triggered a wave of protests which have spread across the Arab world including Libya and Yemen. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
