- Story Text: Palestinian and international peace activists clash with the Israeli army during the weekly demonstration against Israel's barrier wall.
Israeli border police and soldiers clashed with Palestinians and international peace activists in the West Bank village of Nilin on Friday (November 7), during a weekly protest against the construction of the Israeli separation barrier.
Seven peace activists were injured from rubber coated bullets and tear gas during the clashes, Palestinian medical officials said.
Among the injured was a Danish citizen who suffered a broken arm and bruises on her body. She was evacuated by an ambulance to a near by hospital.
An Israeli army spokeswoman said that some 300 demonstrators broke the law by entering a declared closed military area. They threw stones at the army who responded with anti-demonstration measures against them. No army casualties were reported.
Palestinians say the Israeli-built separation barrier prevents residents from accessing land and unfairly prejudges borders of any future Palestinian state. Israel says it needs the barrier to keep out suicide bombers.
The International Court of Justice in The Hague has ruled the barrier illegal. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
