- Story Text: Roger Waters, the legendary front-man of Pink Floyd fame visited the West Bank city of Jenin on Monday (June 1) to support a local cinema and call attention to the daily situation Palestinians face in the West Bank.
Waters said that he first became interested in "Cinema Jenin" after watching a film called "Heart of Jenin" during the Berlin Film Festival.
"So, I'm here to have a look at the cinema and provide some sound equipment and to offer my moral and physical support," Waters said.
Waters said that he's been moved by the people he's met in Jenin.
"I confess to be very shaken by the amount of post traumatic stress and the extraordinary suffering that has gone on, so we all wrack our brains constantly to see where it is that we can lend a shoulder and push in some direction to try and resolve these problems and persuade the Israeli government to persuade in a more humane - to behave in a more humane manner, and to end the occupation," Waters told Reuters.
Cinema Jenin's owners plan to reopen the facility as a film school. Waters is also expected to visit the Sam Spiegel Film and Television School in Jerusalem to encourage cooperation between the institutions.
This is Waters' second visit to the West Bank. In 2006, Rogers held a concert in a village near Jerusalem after he came under fire by fans in Britain and in the Palestinian territories for planning to hold the concert in Tel Aviv. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
