- Story Text: German Chancellor Angela Merkel has vowed during a meeting with the designated United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-Moon in Berlin on Thursday (December 7) that her country will "fully support" the world body's work and its reform.
"Germany wants to support the work (of the U.N.) because we firmly believe that the United Nations must be the organisation which represents the voice of the people across the world, a voice that is accepted," Merkel said during joint statements with Ban.
"The U.N. therefore have to be reformed and we want to fully support this task," the chancellor added.
Ban thanked the German government and expressed his ":deepest appreciation to the German people and government for the strong support for my candidacy during the campaign process to elect me as next Secretary General of the United Nations."
