- Story Text: The Albanian minority in southern Serbia took to the streets on Tuesday (September 13) over a refusal by Serb authorities to recognises diplomas from Kosovo's Pristina University and to provide textbooks in Albanian.
Albanian political parties from the municipalities of Bujanovac, Presevo and Medvedja organised the protests which drew some 1,500 young people.
Crowds carried banners demanding a stop to what they called discrimination against their language and young people.
"Our message from this protest is addressed to the Serb authorities in Belgrade, to the Education ministry, to President Tadic that such discrimination should be stopped in education. You have seen that our message is "Enough is enough," it's almost ten years since the political process started in the Presevo Valley, and we still do not have a spelling book," Bujanovac mayor, Saip Kamberi said.
More protests are expected on Wednesday (September 14). - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
