- Story Text: Former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn exited a Paris police station on Thursday (September 29) after a face-to-face confrontation with writer Tristane Banon, who accuses him of trying to rape her when she interviewed him for a book in an empty flat in the capital nearly a decade ago.
Extra security was laid on outside the police station to keep a heavy media contingent away from both plaintiff and defendant away from the cameras.
Strauss-Kahn walked out of the building after a two hours and a half confrontation, smiling to the horde of journalists waiting outside.
Face-to-face confrontations between plaintiff and defendant are a regular feature in criminal investigations in France and do not imply innocence or guilt. Strauss-Kahn vehemently denies any wrongdoing but Banon has repeated her allegations with increasing force.
A Manhattan court dropped criminal charges against Strauss-Kahn last month after the prosecution said his accuser was an unreliable witness. Strauss-Kahn promptly returned to France. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
