- Story Text: Israeli troops and Palestinian stone throwers clashed in a refugee camp near the West Bank city of Ramallah on Wednesday (September 27) during an army arrest raid.
The clashes erupted during a day light raid into the Am'ari refugee camp near Ramallah aimed at arresting Palestinian militants.
The army said the soldiers used "riot dispersal means" to deter crowds of Palestinians who threw blocks and grenades at the forces in the area.
Witnesses said that dozens of army troops backed by bulldozers, hummers and jeeps, raided the area and fired rubber bullets and stan grenades at Palestinian youths.
One soldier was wounded lightly during the clashes, the army said.
Eyewitnesses said one member of the al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades was taken by the forces. The militant group is linked to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah movement.
Earlier, in the West Bank city of Nablus, Israeli forces raided the Balata refugee camp in search of militants, a military spokesperson said.
He said the troops arrested two militants aged 17 who revealed the location of a 10 kg bomb belt. It was detonated in a controlled manner. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
