- Story Text: Gunmen killed an off-duty bodyguard of Iraqi President Jalal Talabani on Wednesday (November 20).
The gunmen broke into the bodyguard's house in Sulaimaniya, 260 km (160 miles) northeast of Baghdad. Talabani has been in Germany for medical treatment for several months.
A relative at the funeral confirmed that the killing came as bodyguard Sarwer Mohammed Rasheed was about to leave for the airport and fly to Germany where President Talabani has been receiving treatment for almost a year.
"Yes, he was scheduled to fly to Germany at 0600 to go and stay with Jalal. He was at his home. He has no quarrel with any one," relative, Omar Hajji Rasheed said.
Rasheed died at the scene and the gunmen escaped.
