- Story Text: The Polish prime minister Donald Tusk said on Wednesday (January 29) that he condemned the violence in Ukraine but nobody should interfere "into the internal affairs" of a country.
"Ukraine has the right for solidarity and help but nobody has the right to intervene into the internal affairs of Ukraine, - and I don't want to refer to any other country, - nobody else can decide about the future of Ukraine," Tusk said at the news conference with his Hungarian counterpart.
Tusk arrived for a bilateral meeting with the Hungarian prime minister Viktor Orban before being joined by two more V4 prime ministers for an informal working dinner to discuss the situation in Ukraine later on Wednesday.
He said there should be several conditions for Europe to help.
"The first condition is that violence must stop and this is the responsibility of the Ukrainian authority, the Ukrainian state must not bash its own citizens. At the same time, the certain opposition circles must refrain from radical steps although according to my very good intelligence the opposition is behaving in a very responsible way, there have been protests for over a months now and there have no aggressive behaviour from the demonstrators," Tusk said.
The Hungarian prime minister said that Hungary was especially worried about the situation in neighbouring Ukraine which contains a Hungarian minority.
"We are talking about a country that similarly to Poland is a neighbouring country to us. And chaos and the danger of anarchy is here at the Hungarian border. We are talking about a neighbour that also has ethnic Hungarians living there, and it's country that can easily sink into anarchy," said Orban.
The V4 prime ministers are expected to pass a joint statement this evening on their recommendation about Ukraine and Europe. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
