- Story Text: Iraq's President Jalal Talabani said on Tuesday (April 11) that Iraq's security committee will adapt a new security plan to bring back security and stability into the country.
Following a meeting with commanders of Iraq's security forces, Talabani stressed the fact that the security plan will be implemented soon.
"The security committee, which is headed by Iraq's prime minister will put Baghdad's security plan. God willing, this plan will be put into effect soon with the efforts of our brave brothers (security forces) who are good in numbers and well trained. God willing, we can supply them with good weapons. God willing, security and stability will be imposed in Baghdad soon," he said.
"Yesterday, we held discussions with the sheikhs of tribes in Ramadi and the central parts of Iraq. We discussed the sufferings of the tribes with the tribal leaders. We have a plan to deal with (the problem of) the displaced people and the main road that links Ramadi and the Iraqi borders in Traibil and Waleed (to the west). It (the plan) will be submitted to Iraq's prime minister. This morning we have discussed these subjects in front of the linked sides, " added Talabani.
Ramadi and the nearby western Iraqi cities, the capital of semi-lawless Anbar province, is a base of the Sunni Arab-led insurgency.
U.S. and Iraqi troops have launched a series of offensives in Anbar over the past few months aimed at securing western Iraq against the insurgents. - Copyright Holder: REUTERS
